America had been betrayed by one of there best Generals Benedict Arnold. ,Benedict Arnold heralded as one of the best Continental Military officers this day had offered to give over the fort at West Point for £20,300. d a heavy blow to the morales of the soldiers put under Benedict's command at West Point . Though it was said that upon hearing this information George Washington was calm and placid he did not panic nor burst out in anger he listened comprehended and acted accordingly.To seal the deal Benedict Arnold sent back documents explaining his devious plot to the British with a man by the name of Major André . En-route to his ship The Vulture, Major André was caught and found with the Documents incriminating Benedict Arnold Later on Major André was hanged under the charges of espionage better known as charged with spying. Benedict Arnold did not learn of Andre's capture and fate until Colonel John Jameson to whom Major André had been delivered informed his of the Loyalists demise. With the help of John Borns, Benedict Arnold managed to escape to the ship The Vulture. After his escape Benedict Arnold wrote a letter to General Washington requesting of him safe passage for his wife Peggy Shippen . Benedict for her totravel to her family in Philadelphia unscathed. This request was granted by George Washington. Not soon after this heinous betrayal Benedict Arnold was made a Brigadier in the British Forces. Had this attempt at decimating the Colonies hopes for freedom and the British had obtained the Fort at West Point the northern and Southernarmies would have been separated from each other. Using the battle tactic of Divide and the War would have ended then and there. But thankfully our fight continues to wage onward our hearts are strong our spirits unbroken by the Betrayal of one of our strongest supporters.
